2024 Subaru Outback vs 2024 Subaru Ascent

Serving Evergreen Park, IL

At Subaru Evergreen Park, SUV shoppers are often drawn to popular models like the Outback and the Ascent. The Outback has a long-standing appeal with a wagon-like appearance and robust functionality. The Ascent is the largest model in the lineup today, offering three-row seating. What else should you know before making your next crossover SUV purchase?

Performance

Nine trim options are available for the 2024 Subaru Outback, and the first five trims come with a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter, 182-horsepower engine. The remaining Outback trims draw 260 horsepower from a four-cylinder, turbo 2.4-liter engine. Every Outback has a CVT and all-wheel drive. The 2024 Ascent is exclusively offered with a 260-horsepower engine, a CVT, and all-wheel drive.

Appearance

The Outback is distinguished from other small crossover SUVs with its long, low-profile shape that gives it a wagon-style look. Across the sides, a minimal crease crosses through the door panels. Molding swells over the bottom of the doors, the wheel wells, and underneath the headlights. The molded bumper holds circular fog lights in some trim levels. The grille has a classic Subaru shape with wide, staggered mesh. In comparison, the Ascent stands taller and has impactful, horizontal accents across the sides and through the tall grille. The headlights have a standard look with a small bulb outlined on three sides by LED bars. Molding is thin on the sides and thickens across the front bumper.

Features

Depending on your trim selection, your new Outback may come with leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a Harman Kardon audio system, a sunroof, a navigation system, a digital rear mirror, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic detection, a front-view camera, a hands-free liftgate, a dual-zone auto climate control system, heated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and others. The Ascent offers many of the Outback's features as well as a third row of seats, a digital auto-dimming rear mirror, a forward parking camera, a 120-volt power outlet, a driver attention monitor, an intercom system, second-row sunshades, and several more features.
